Park Descriptions

Mini Parks

Barth Playlot  (.35 Acres), 301 Barth. Located at the corner of Barth and Comstock, this park contains two toddler swings, two youth swings, half-court basketball, trees and grass.

Carol Woodruff Plaza  Located in The Parkway, just north of Lee Boulevard. This 'pocket park' has grass, trees, benches.

Greater Years Park  (.24 acres), part of the Abbott Shelterbelt. Located on Goethals Drive just north of Aaron Drive. This park contains picnic tables, walking trail, grass and trees.

Hunt Point Circle  (.38 acres). Located at the intersection of Hunt Street and McMurray, containing trees and turf.

Jadwin/Stevens Triangle (1.50 acres). Located at the intersection of Jadwin Avenue and Stevens Drive, the triangle is 2/3 undeveloped and 1/3 developed in native vegetation.

Marshall Park (.11 acres). Located at the intersection of Marshall Street and McMurray, the park is grass.

Overlook Park  (.91 acres), 130 Fairwood Court. Located at the end of Fairwood Court in south Richland. This park has playground equipment, four toddler swings, four youth swings, half court basketball, picnic tables, grass and trees.

Swift Parkway (1.50 acres). Located on Swift Boulevard west of Stevens Drive, the parkway has trees and turf.

Westwood Park (.89 acres), 1422 Westwood. Located at the end of Westwood Court in north Richland, this park has a gazebo, turf and trees.

Beverly Heights Park  (2.6 acres), 245 Wright. Located between Ada and Wright. This park has playground equipment, an unlit baseball field, two toddler swings, four youth swings, drinking fountains, benches, picnic tables, trees and grass. On-street parking only.

Brookstone Park (2.5 acres). Located on the corner of Tomich and Emerald Street in south Richland. Currently undeveloped.

Chaparral Park (3.0 acres), 130 Timmerman Drive. Located on Timmerman Drive off of Leslie Road in south Richland. This park has playground equipment, four youth swings, two toddler swings, half court basketball, a large open level field, grass and trees. On-street parking only.

Craighill Park (3.41 acres), 200 Craighill. Located at the intersection of Craighill, Comstock and Benham Streets. This park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, two unlit baseball fields, room for two soccer fields if space is shared with baseball fields, drinking fountains, benches, trees and grass. There is on-street parking as well as 21 parking stalls.

Crested Hills Park (5.8 acres), 851 Clermont Drive. Located on Clermont Drive in the Crested Hills subdivision in south Richland. This park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, benches, two level areas for soccer, storm drainage pond, trees and grass. On-street parking only.

Desert Rim Park (2.84 acres), 415 Satus. Located on Satus Street in south Richland. This park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, benches, looped walking trail, level grass area for soccer, and grass. On-street parking only.

Frankfort Playground (2.86 acres), 400 Hartford. Located on the corner of Hartford and Frankfort Streets. This park has playground equipment, four youth swings, two toddler swings, half court basketball, one baseball field, room for one soccer field, drinking fountain, picnic tables, grass and trees. Goethals Playground  (2.0 acres), 301 Goethals Drive. Located on Goethals Drive at Comstock Street. This park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, half court basketball, one unlit baseball field, room for a soccer field if shared with the baseball field, benches, grass and trees. There are 6 off-street parking stalls.

Heritage Hills Park (1.59 acres), 601 Heritage Hills Drive. Located west of the Columbia Park Trail at Heritage Hills Drive in south Richland. Currently undeveloped.

Hills West Park (1.18 acres), 130 Pinionwood Court. Located between Pinionwood and Laurelwood Courts in south Richland. This park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, picnic tables, an open field for soccer, grass and trees. On-street parking only.

Jason Lee Park  (4.1 acres), 1701 McMurray. Located on Wright adjacent to Jason Lee Elementary School. This park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, one baseball field, an area for soccer, drinking fountain, benches, picnic tables, grass and trees. On-street parking only.

Jefferson Park  (8.71 acres), 1400 George Washington Way (northern portion); 1340 George Washington Way (southern portion). Located on George Washington Way and Symons, adjacent to the Uptown Shopping Center. This park has playground equipment, four youth swings, two toddler swings, a restroom/concession building, a picnic shelter, two unlit baseball fields with bleachers, batting cages, storage building, drinking fountains, an area for a soccer field, benches, picnic tables, grass and trees. There are 69 off-street parking stalls and one handicap parking stall.

Lynnwood Loop Park (10.9 acres), 600 Lynnwood Loop Road. Located on Lynnwood Loop between Snyder and Saint in north Richland. The park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, half court basketball, one baseball field, soccer field, drinking fountain, benches, bike racks, swing bench, grass and trees. There are 28 off-street parking stalls.

Meadows East Park (3.04 acres), 610 Muriel. Located on Muriel Street off of Bellerive Street in south Richland. The park has playground equipment, benches, picnic tables, two toddler swings, two youth swings, an area for soccer, grass and trees. On-street parking only.

McMurray Park (3.04 acres), 1731 Pike. Located behind the Safeway store on George Washington Way and McMurray. The park has playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, walking trails, picnic shelter, grass and trees. There is a community garden section that residents can rent plots on an annual basis. There are six parking stalls and two handicap parking stall designated for park use in the Eagle Care facility on Pike Avenue.

Oak Park (3.1 acres), 1947 Mahan. Located on the corner of Mahan and Oak just west of Stevens Drive. The park has playground equipment, five youth swings, one toddler swing, drinking fountain, benches, picnic tables, six concrete sculptures, grass and trees. On-street parking only.

Paul Liddell Park (2.75 acres), 702 Cottonwood Loop. Located on Cottonwood Loop just south of Swift Boulevard. The park has picnic benches, walking trails, grass and trees. On-street parking only.

Rodney R. Block Park (3.1 acres), 1500 Roberdeau (formerly Roberdeau Park). Located on the corner of Roberdeau and Perkins, just west of Thayer Drive. The park has playground equipment, four youth swings, two toddler swings, half court basketball, one baseball field with bleachers, room for a soccer field, drinking fountain, benches, picnic tables, grass and trees. There are 25 off- street parking stalls.

Stevens Playground (1.41 acres), 1533 Stevens Drive. Located on the corner of Stevens Drive and Van Giesen. This playground has minimal playground equipment, three toddler swings, half court basketball, one baseball field, picnic tables, grass and trees. There are 26 off-street parking stalls.

Tanglewood Park (1.5 acres), 460 Tanglewood Drive. Located west of the By-pass Highway, north of Duportail Street at the end of Tanglewood Drive. Currently undeveloped.

Wye Park (3.15 acres), 1600 Columbia Park Trail. Located on Columbia park Trail, just west of Columbia Center Boulevard. The park has playground equipment, two youth swings, two toddler swings, restroom facility, picnic shelter, half court basketball, picnic tables, primitive boat launch, grass and trees. There are 13 parking stalls and one handicap parking stall. There is a large gravel parking area at the launch location.

Community Parks

Badger Mountain Community Park  (80.0 acres), 350 Keene Road. Located on Keene Road, west of Gage Boulevard in south Richland. The park has playground equipment, restroom / concession building, three picnic shelters, four baseball fields (two are lighted), bleachers, one football field,  four soccer fields, full court basketball, walking trails, drinking fountain, picnic tables, three barbeques, benches, batting cages, grass and trees. There are 211 off-street parking stalls and 8 off-street handicap parking stalls.

Approximately 40 acres of the park is undeveloped and will remain in natural open space, and is accessible from Glenwood Court. A view shelter and walking trails are available, with twenty-five off-street parking stalls provided.

Claybell Community Park  (49.0 acres), 425 Broadmoor. Located on Broadmoor in south Richland. This park has 11 developed acres that include playground equipment, two toddler swings, two youth swings, two tennis courts, one basketball court, one unlit baseball field which also doubles as a soccer field, one soccer field, drinking fountains, benches, picnic tables, grass and trees. There is an off-street parking lot with 67 parking stalls and 2 handicap parking stalls. An additional 38 acres of undeveloped land was acquired in 2008.

Hanford Legacy Park (117.44 acres), Located at SR 240 and Kingsgate Avenue (across from the Horn Rapids Golf Course community). This park is largely undeveloped, with the exception of a babe ruth baseball complex (30+ acres). The park has an approved Master Plan with amenities that include: four-field adult softball complex, community/sport center, 7 multi-purpose sport fields, aquatic facility, tennis courts, trails, restroom/concession building, playground, parking, etc. The initial phase of the babe ruth complex has been completed.

Trailhead Community Park
(40.0 acres), 541 Queensgate Drive. Located on Queensgate Drive just west of the Westcliffe neighborhood, this newly named park provides parking and trail access to the Badger Mountain Centennial Preserve, a 574-acre natural preserve atop Badger Mountain. The developed portion of the park is 2.5 acres with grass, 40+ trees, playground and benches. A drinking fountain and restroom are scheduled to be installed in 2007.


Regional Parks

Howard Amon Park (45.91 acres). Located along the Columbia River from the Hampton Inn to approximately Gowen Drive.

From the Hampton Inn to Lee Boulevard, this centrally-located park has Sturgeon Cove playground, two toddler swings, four youth swings, restroom, picnic shelter, four lighted tennis courts with bleachers, drinking fountains, benches, picnic tables, swing benches, wading pool, power pedestals, Lee Plaza, Lee Boulevard Dock, multi-use trails, grass and trees. Twenty-seven parking stalls and two handicapped stalls are provided on Lee Boulevard.

From Lee Boulevard to north of Newton Street, the park has a half-court basketball, swimming area, benches, swing benches, multi-use trail, picnic tables, power pedestal, grass and trees, and the Ellipsoid (outdoor stage). The parking lot adjacent to the park has 111 stalls and 4 handicap stalls.

From Newton Street, north, the park has a restroom, picnic shelter, one barbeque, four youth swings, multi-use trail, two toddler swings, drinking fountain, benches, picnic tables, boat launch facility, docks, grass and trees. There are 43 parking stalls, 3 handicap parking stalls and 47 vehicle / trailer stalls.

Leslie Groves Park (149.2 acres). Located along the Columbia River between Van Giesen Street and Snyder Street.

South of Saint Street the park has playground equipment, two restrooms, two picnic shelters, two barbeques, one baseball field (not lighted), one soccer field, two horse shoe pits, drinking fountains, benches, picnic tables, three sand volleyball courts, fishing pier, grass and trees. There are 50 parking stalls and 4 handicap parking stalls.

North of Saint Street the park has a restroom, three picnic shelters (first-come, first serve), swimming area, two tennis courts, basketball court, soccer field, an informal soccer area, 160 feet of boat docks, boat launch, drinking fountains, benches, picnic tables, bike racks, grass and trees. There are 57 parking stalls and 3 handicap parking stalls available at Saint Street and 4 handicap parking stalls, 2 handicap vehicle / trailer parking stalls, 60 vehicle with trailer parking stalls and 18 parking stalls at Snyder Street.

Special Use Areas

Columbia Park West (65.0 acres), 1776 Columbia Park Trail. Located on Columbia Park Trail, north of Columbia  Center Boulevard. The area has a restroom, picnic shelter, picnic tables, two barbeques, drinking fountain, multi-use trails, boat docks, 3-lane boat launch, benches, grass and trees. There are 6 handicap parking stalls, 1 handicap trailer stall, 35 trailer stalls and 29 vehicle parking stalls.

Columbia Park West is home to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Overlook, located to the west, commemorating the journey of Lewis and Clark in the Tri-City area.

Columbia Playfield (28.89 acres). Located just east of Richland High School, this area has minimal playground equipment, 1 toddler swing, 10 youth swings, four lighted softball fields with bleachers, one baseball field (not lighted), two restroom/concession buildings, grass and trees.

George Prout Aquatic Complex  1005 Swift Boulevard, is located adjacent to Columbia Playfield, at the northern most end, along Swift Boulevard. The facility has a 4,625 square foot, 25-yard pool (3.5 to 12 feet deep), a 1,100 square foot wading pool (6 inches to 30 inches deep) and bathhouse. There is parking opportunities located off of Mansfield Street and off of Swift Boulevard.

Columbia Point Golf Course (170 acres). Located on Columbia Point Drive, adjacent to George Washington Way. The golf course is owned by the City but privately operated. To schedule a tee-time, click here.

Columbia Point Marina Park (14.1 acres), 550 Columbia Point Drive. Located at the end of Columbia Point Drive, the park has playground equipment, restroom, four picnic shelters with barbeques, room for a soccer field,  multi-use paved trail, boat docks, 4-lane boat launch facility, benches, picnic tables, six power pedestals, drinking fountain, grass and trees. There are 93 vehicle parking stalls, 6 handicap vehicle parking stalls and 146 boat / trail parking stalls.

John Dam Plaza (3.9 acres), 1815 George Washington Way. Located between George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue, north of Knight Street. The Plaza has benches, picnic tables, art pieces, a raised turf area for outdoor performance, trees and grass.

Horn Rapids Athletic Complex (24.0 acres), 2000 Snyder Street. Located off the Vantage Highway (SR-240) on Snyder Street. The Complex has playground equipment, three toddler swings, four youth swings, restroom, four softball fields (one is lighted) with bleachers, BMX track with bleachers, drinking fountains, grass and trees. There are 269 vehicle parking stalls and 6 handicap vehicle parking stalls.

Skate Park (2.02 acres), 1185 Carondelet. The Jeannette Taylor Park (skate park) is located off Goethals Drive between Williams Drive and Swift Boulevard. The park has 22,100 square feet of concrete skate park, restroom, grass and trees. On-street parking only.

W.E. Johnson Park (236.0 acres). Located on Hall Road off of Van Giesen on the west side of the By-Pass Highway. The park is mostly natural open space with multi-use dirt trails, with approximately ½ mile of Yakima River frontage. No vehicular access permitted in the southern ¾ of the park. The Colyak Bow Hunters lease a portion of the northern part of the park for archery ranges.

Lineal Parks

Abbott Shelterbelt (4.1 acres). Located adjacent to Aaron Drive. The Abbott Shelterbelt is currently undeveloped.

By-Pass Shelterbelt (55.74 acres). Located along the By-Pass Highway from Thayer Drive to Van Giesen. The By-Pass Shelterbelt has paved multi-use trails, benches, drinking fountains, sound wall and trees.

Gillespie Parkway (2.9 acres). Located along Gillespie Street, the parkway has picnic tables, trees and grass.

Goethals Shelterbelt (15.0 acres). Located along Goethals Drive from Aaron Drive to Gillespie Street, the shelterbelt has trees.

Hains Avenue Levee Trail (19.0 acres). Located between Howard Amon Park and Leslie Groves Park, running parallel with the Columbia River. The trail has a paved multi-use trail (a portion of the Riverfront Trail), benches, swing bench, drinking fountain and grass.

James Lawless Park (34.0 acres), 251 Wellhouse Loop Road. Located on the hillside between Thayer Drive and Wellsian Way, the park is undeveloped with dirt trails.

Keene Road Trail Corridor (36 acres). Located in the abandoned railroad right-of-way in south Richland, with a 12-foot wide paved multi-use trail.

Marjorie Sutch Greenway  (14.6 acres), 1175 Goethals (Stevens to Goethals), 1235 Jadwin (Goethals to Jadwin). Located between Stevens Drive and George Washington Way, the Greenway has paved walking trails and two bridges across a drainage ditch.

Stevens Drive Buffer Strip
(16.27 acres). Located adjacent to Stevens Drive from Catskill Street to Spengler Street, with a paved multi-use trail.

Natural Open Space

Bateman Island (160.0 acres). Located at the confluence of the Yakima River with the Columbia River. Access to the island is from Columbia Park Trail just south of North Columbia Center Boulevard. The island has dirt walking trails (motor vehicles are not allowed), fishing, wildlife and vegetation viewing.

Chamna Preserve (276 acres). Located adjacent to the Yakima River and the I-182 bridge. From Aaron Drive, turn south on Jadwin Avenue and cross I-182. Turn right on Carrier Road, travel 500 feet and turn right into the Chamna Preserve. Follow the road to the parking lot. The preserve has dirt multi-use trails (motor vehicles are not allowed) and an information kiosk. There is a gravel / asphalt parking area.

East Badger Mountain (16 acres). Located on the southwest end of Badger Mountain, no access.

South Columbia Point (230 acres). Located at the confluence of the Yakima River and the Columbia River. Access is from Columbia Point Drive. This area is the future home of the Hanford Reach Interpretive Center. It also has dirt walking trails, fishing locations, primitive boat launch, wildlife and vegetation viewing.

South Columbia Point is currently closed to motor vehicles.

Riverview Preserve (268.0 acres). Located adjacent to the Yakima River west of SR-240.  Access is from Columbia Park Trail. The preserve is owned and maintained by the Corps of Engineers. It has dirt multi-use trails (motor vehicles are not allowed), wildlife and vegetation viewing. There is a gravel parking lot area.
