Using safer cleaning products and reducing chemical use in the home can often help improve the health of those living in the home and the environment.
Begin now by getting rid of the old or unwanted products currently stored throughout the home. Chemical products that are no longer needed can be given to a family, friend or neighbor who will use them. They can also be taken to the Richland Moderate Risk Waste Facility located at the Richland Landfill for redistribution or proper disposal.
Cola Grease Remover Recipe
To clean grease or oil from concrete, first soak it up with kitty litter, grinding it in with the soles of your shoes. Sweep it up and properly dispose of the soiled material. Next, saturate the area with a cola beverage, working it into the concrete with a stiff broom. Once the fizzing stops, immediately flush the area with clean fresh water. Whiten the gray stain that remains with a solution of 1 cup powdered laundry detergent and 1 cup of liquid chlorine bleach in one gallon of very hot water. Finish the job with a final rinse. – Tri-City Herald –2002
Cola also works to clean hard water stains in the toilet bowl. Pour a can of cola in the bowl and let sit for several hours. Scrub with a brush and it should be sparkling clean!
