Richland City Council Unanimously Approves Proclamation of Welcome
Richland City Council recently passed a proclamation reaffirming Richland as a welcoming city for all people. While the City of Richland organization has long been committed to upholding the Human Rights Ordinance first adopted in 1970, some concerned citizens urged the Council to consider reinforcing the commitment.
At a workshop held on November 2, 2017, Council considered three draft proclamations on the subject, which resulted in the final version passed last week.
“Richland has long supported equality and the civil rights of our citizens. In fact, our City Vision Statement states we will be a progressive, safe, and family-friendly community that welcomes diversity,” says Richland Mayor, Robert Thompson. “This recent proclamation reiterates our pledge to our residents, as well as all visitors to our community, that we will not tolerate unlawful discrimination within the City.”
