Fair Housing Survey Launches
The Tri-Cities HOME Consortium and Local Housing Authorities Launch Fair Housing Survey
To help identify barriers to housing in the Tri-Cities and outlying communities, the Tri-Cities HOME Consortium (Cities of Kennewick, Pasco and Richland), the Housing Authority of the City of Kennewick and the Housing Authority of the City of Pasco and Franklin County (PHAs) have jointly launched a survey to assess the status of fair housing in our communities. The public is encouraged to share experiences and the barriers faced with housing choice, affordability, and other important aspects of finding a place to live in Benton and Franklin Counties.
Barriers to fair housing are any actions, omissions or decisions taken because of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin that restrict housing choices or the availability of housing choice. Fair housing laws, intended to help protect the most vulnerable populations in a community, apply to rental and home sale transactions as well as ongoing tenancy.
Survey results will help the Consortium and Housing Authorities prepare an “Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice” (AI). This process allows the opportunity to identify barriers and steps to improve access to housing.
The AI is also a required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in order to receive local federal funding.
Participants have until June 15, 2018, to take the online survey, found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DR7KMR3
The Consortium and PHAs will host public hearings, later this summer, prior to submitting the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice to HUD.
