Swift Boulevard Improvements - Update
Work on this phase should be completed by March 2019
The City of Richland's contractor, Culbert Construction, began street improvements in Mid-December, 2018. Traffic control features are in place to enforce adjustments to one lane of travel in each direction (east/west). Swift Boulevard is impacted from Jadwin Avenue to Stevens Drive, with access to Northgate closing on Thursday and Friday, January 10 and 11 during the daytime only. It was determined from a safety and efficiency perspective that closing Northgate will be more conducive than flagging the intersection.
On Monday (1/14) and Tuesday (1/15) we anticipate the closure of the intersection of Swift/Goethals with the detour being at Stevens Drive. This is estimated to last 2 days as there is additional utility conduit installation. Again, Goethals will be closed only during the day.
Overall, construction is moving along as planned with the asphalt removal on the south half of Swift completed last week and conduit installation starting this past Monday. That work will continue for the next week or two.
We will provide additional updates as we receive them from the contractor.
Weather permitting, utility construction work will continue throughout the winter. The City has planned the utility work for the winter months so that street improvement work can begin as early as possible in the spring. This approach will enable the entire project to finish as early as possible. Work on the first phase should be completed by March 2019, with the overall project completion anticipated by June, 2019.
Travelers are encouraged to obey project signage and consider alternate routes. Pedestrian traffic will be routed to the north side of Swift and existing intersections (Stevens, Goethals, Northgate and Jadwin).
