Emergency Communications Dispatcher (9-1-1 Dispatcher)
The City of Richland conducts ongoing testing for the positions of Emergency Communications Dispatcher.
To be considered for this process, candidates must first complete the City's online application as outlined in the posting located on the Job Opportunities page. Following the application screening process, those qualified applicants will also be required to complete the City's testing process.
The City's testing process includes skills testing (CritiCall), observations and an oral board interview, which may span over a two to three week period.
Testing will be conducted on an ongoing basis; however, is subject to change depending on current staffing needs.

Entry-Level Police Officer and FirefightersThe City of Richland has contracted with Public Safety Testing (PST) to conduct the initial written and physical agility testing process for entry-level police officers and firefighter. Please contact PST directly at (866) HIRE-911 for additional information about the testing process and requirements.
Applicants who pass the initial written and physical agility test with PST will be forwarded to the City of Richland. Once the city receives certified scores from PST, candidates will be notified of the city’s supplemental testing process. We generally conduct supplemental testing twice a year (spring and fall); however, it is subject to change depending on current staffing needs.
Lateral Police Officer
The City of Richland hires lateral officers. Lateral applicants are not required to go through the PST process. Please contact the human resources office directly for more information on the city’s qualification requirements and testing process.

Lateral FirefighterNo current process is in place; all applicants must go through the PST process.
Background ProvisionsApplicants testing for public safety positions must be able to pass a comprehensive background check including but not limited to work history, professional references, criminal history, credit check (if applicable), records check and fingerprinting. Any negative factors in your past will be evaluated in terms of frequency, relevance, circumstances surrounding their occurrence and significance to the position for which you are applying. Felony convictions are automatic disqualifiers. Significant misdemeanor activities may be also be automatic disqualifiers. Applicants are also cautioned that government clearances or success in other agency selection processes are no guarantee of success in our process.
