** Project Updates**
Due to the unforeseen snowfall this past month, the contractor for the Swift Boulevard Improvements Project has not been able to continue work on construction efforts. The combination of snow and below freezing weather has not been conducive for the work that needs to take place.
The contractor has been attempting to perform maintenance on Goethals and Northgate and also the crossing of Jadwin (south leg of the Swift intersection) throughout this storm event.
The City Streets Division has also been addressing potholes mostly on the westbound lane when possible.
As the snow melts and temperatures rise, we anticipate commencing with work again. We will provide an update and projected schedule in the coming week.
Thank you for your patience as we navigate these weather conditions.
The Swift Boulevard Improvements project is a key component of the City’s Swift Corridor strategy aimed at continuing the transformation of downtown Richland into a vibrant, active center of City life.
The street improvements project will add bicycle lanes, on-street parking in a few places, landscaping, and enhanced pedestrian treatments. An engineering graphic of the new street features can be seen below. In addition to the enhancement features, the project will completely reconstruct the pavement surface to extend its service life and ride quality, and will upgrade the traffic signals to bring them to current standards. The project limits are between Stevens Drive and Jadwin Avenue.
During construction, commuters are encouraged to explore alternate routes and avoid the construction area as much as possible. Click on the informational flier to view a map of areas not impacted by the Swift Boulevard construction.
