Michael Alvarez was elected to Richland City Council in November 2017. He and his wife moved to Richland after both graduating college from New Mexico State University. Their children were born in Richland, graduated from Richland High and are currently WSU Cougs. 

Michael is a veteran of the United Stated Marine Corp. and is now currently serving as an active member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Michael’s volunteer community service has included serving as a Commissioner for the Richland Parks and Recreation Commission, Volunteer for Boy Scouts of America, National Child Identification Program Volunteer, Richland Parks and Recreation youth baseball coach, Richland National Little League coach and Charity Organizer and Fund Raiser for Safe Harbor/My Friends Place and other local charities. 

Michael has served as past president, treasurer and a state director for the Tri-Cities Association of Realtors and Washington Realtors. He is currently a WR Adjunct Faculty member/Instructor teaching Code of Ethics, Finance, Business Management and Advanced Business Management to professional associations statewide.

Michael and his wife of more than 28 years currently own and operate a successful mortgage company in the Tri-Cities for over two decades.

Michael’s hobbies include everything the outdoors has to offer from hiking, biking, boating, golfing, fishing, kayaking, running on one of the many paths Richland has to offer, to watching a little league game with his wife.
